Chapter 16
He didnât claim me. I didnât understand why. I thought everything was going so well. Why didnât he claim me? My chest was clenching with the pain of rejection. My body still buzzed from our love making. I didnât understand it and was fighting back an emotional breakdown.
I had always been able to control my emotions well, but they were all over the place overwhelming me.
âSyd, whatâs going on in that gorgeous head of yours?â
âYou didnât claim me. Why?â I demanded.
Luke genuinely looked surprised. âI thought you werenât sure about all this. I didnât want to rush you,â he said, and I could tell immediately that he meant it.
âBut I told you I was all in. Didnât I?â I scrunched up my nose in frustration trying to remember.
He smiled and stroked my hair. âJust the other day you were ready to leave Collier to get the hell away from me. As far as Iâm concerned you can take all the time you need to adjust. Iâm not going anywhere. You are my mate. Not having a sealed bond wonât change that fact.â
âBut it will make your life a whole lot harder,â I said with a frown.
He shrugged. âMaybe a little, but I can handle it.â
I crossed my arms over my chest and harrumphed. âThereâs probably something I should warn you about me.â
He grinned and leaned in for a quick kiss. âWhatâs that?â
âIâm stubborn to my core, and when I set my mind on something, thereâs no going back without some major life altering event.â
âAre you saying youâve set your mind on me?â he teased.
âIâm saying I fully accept the fact that you, Luke Larken, Alpha of Larken Pack, are my one and only true mate. I donât want to draw out a long mating period when we both know the inevitable ending. Whatâs the point?â
He laughed. âYou make it sound like a life sentence.â
I smiled and nodded. âIsnât it though? I mean youâre stuck with me now. Our bond has already started. I can feel it, canât you?â I waited for him to nod in agreement, then I rolled to face him, as I swept my hair to one side, exposing the long column of my neck to him.
He growled and took a sharp breath. âSydney,â he said like a warning.
I hugged, him, purposefully positioning my neck close to his face.
âWhy do you resist, Luke? What are you waiting for?â I tempted him.
Without warning I felt the sharp prick of his canines against my skin. I wasnât sure what I was expecting, but it surprised me. I hadnât been teasing him, maybe taunting him a little, but I didnât think he was going to take the bait.
The immediate connection it established brought on this crazy sense of urgency. My canines elongated and I bit into him, marking him as mine forever. A feral sound rumbled through him. I could feel it reverberate through my entire body which lit on fire with an intense desire I had never felt before.
His strong arms wrapped around me as he rolled us to position himself above me.
